Gavin & Tara sighted a dolphin in the Dawesville Channel on Sunday with half a fin " It looked like it had been chopped off" and contacted us to see if we knew what dolphin it was.
We believe it was possibly Nicky, she has half her fin missing and has been in the Mandurah waterways for many years. We often see her playing in the wake of our boats. Nicky has raised several calves over the years in our waterways.
Often Dolphins are born with defects to their dorsal fins however it is also a common place for injuries caused by boats and other predators. We Believe Nicky was born with only half a fin. You can often see teeth marks in a dolphins dorsal fin caused by other dolphins, they do this as a way of playing with each other.

Bouvard Cruises is happy to introduce you to the official "Mandurah's Dolphin Blog" where we will share with you all of the sightings and encounters we have on our cruises with Mandurah's beautiful wild dolphins. You will find photo's, movies and information on the many dolphin encounters we have on our cruises in and around Mandurah and hope that this information helps raise awareness of Mandurah's wild dolphins.
